My mother is at MUSC in Charleston in critical condition. She can't speak to us and she doesn't even know who we are. Without a transplant she has less than a week to live! Please help us save her if you can. It's time for that miracle we have been waiting for. God Speed. Thanks ~Tami (Kathy's Daughter) 10/25/08 |

| A letter from Kathy (9/29/08) | ||||||||||
My name is Kathy and I am 54 years young.I am currently in the hospital fighting for my life and I am running out of time... In 1986 I was in an accident my first (and last) time riding on a motorcycle. I contracted Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion I was given , ironically, to save my life. Six years later I found out I had the virus and have been suffering ever since.My husband has spent well over $100,000.00 to treat and try to stop the disease. A lot of the treatments were extremely painful and nothing has worked. Four weeks ago my world finally fell apart when I was told I needed a liver transplant immediately or I would not live to see my grand children or my 6-month-old great grand daughter grow up.I am in end-stage liver failure.My family is trying desperately to save my life. Social Security Disability and Medicaid have been applied for but the wait is too long. We have pulled together the $600.00 for the initial consultation and the $10,000.00 for the testing at the liver transplant facility in Charleston to see if I am a candidate for a liver transplant. I pray that I am and that from there we can start focusing on the $200,000.00 deposit for my new liver.I don't understand how people can donate their organs, out of the kindness of their hearts, as a gift to help someone only to have the recipient pay such an unreasonable amount of money to receive that gift. I often wonder how many of them know how much the person they were trying to help will have to pay for that gift.I'm trying to stay positive and keeping in contact with my Savior because I know he is the King of miracles. I know my family and friends need me and I see how hard they are trying to save me. I am so tired of hurting and fighting. The pain is unbearable, however, I am a survivor and I have told my family I will keep fighting as long as it takes.As long as it takes to get a miracle.Hopefully it will come before it's too late. My medical expenses have been so high and I know they will only keep accumulating. My family says I am worth every penny. They will be posting a P.O. box address just in case God touches you and you want to help me in my fight for life.I am 2 young 2 die.Thank You.Kathy |
